We have many great events every month, including an Event Planning Meeting where attendees get a free dinner and the chance to propose any event for club approval. Most weeks we have an astounding 3 or more events! Any member who is even minimally active gets their annual membership fee’s worth many times over. Just ask our members at one of our After Work parties or dances. Join our Boston Professionals Social Group (BPSG) meetup (that’s free) and you’ll see them listed and be able to sign up for them. That will also let us know that we should consider you for membership in the Sitzundjibers club.
Our regular events (many are only open to Sitzundjiber members, not BPSG) include:
- 2 After Work cocktail parties per month,
- Annual black tie Holiday Party,
- Annual Meeting Dinner,
- 3 – 5 big dances with live bands per year,
- the aforementioned monthly Event Planning Meetings,
- huge Super Bowl party (80 people) at a member’s home,
- Halloween party at member’s home,
- “Sitzball” – our annual softball game-barbeque,
- weekend ski trip(s),
- concerts and plays with optional dinner,
- hikes, kayak outings, beach parties, and who knows what else our members will come up with!
Sitzundjibers is a private singles social club made up of professional men and women aged 45+. We are doctors, lawyers, teachers, CEOs, scientists, engineers, technologists, artists, writers, producers, designers and business people. Our members live in Boston and the surrounding suburbs including the north and south shores. We even have a few members from NH and RI.
Sitzundjibers Social Club was formed in 1955 by a group of young, single, well-educated, hard-working and upwardly mobile professionals. They had found themselves lacking an active social life, as they witnessed more and more friends and classmates moving on to marriage, babies and the suburbs.
The club name is a bit tongue-in-cheek. It’s made-up German: Sitz from skiing — a sitzmark is a rut left in the snow from an ungraceful fall; Jibers from sailing — a jibe is when a sailing boat turns its stern through the wind. In other words: Skiers and Sailors.
This club does not have a staff. We are most interested in recruiting members who will be active volunteers in the planning and running of events. Sitzundjibers strives to maintain a gender balance when considering candidates for membership in the club.
If you are interested in joining us, we encourage you to attend our “After Works”. These are generally held twice a month at area hotels or restaurants. There is no cost to attend. These are posted on our associated “Meet-up” site: Boston’s Professional Social Group. Non-members can sign up for events by registering on that site.
